PrimoPDF Completely Free PDF Converter Review

PrimoPDF addresses the most common problem when converting document into PDF at completely no charge. The problem is that many PDF converter software is only a trial version, which have many limitations. This is not applicable to PrimoPDF. It is not just a trial version; it is a completely free PDF converter where there is no limitation on the software.

PrimoPDF act as a PDF printer, therefore it can convert any printable file type in your computer, such as office files (word, excel, powerpoint), html file, and text file to PDF. It offers 40 or 128 bit encryption PDF security. It also offers compatibility options to the PDF, thus the older PDF reader can open it.

PrimoPDF features has improved over the time, as cited from their website:

Primo PDF v3.1 Features:

  • Completely free, not just a trial version, and no user registration is required.
  • Ability to optimize PDF output for screen (online viewing), print (standard laser printers), ebook, and prepress.
  • Resultant PDF output conforms to the PDF 1.4 specification.
  • Secure PDF files with 40- or 128-bit encryption.
  • Add document information (e.g. title, author, subject, keywords) to converted PDF files.
  • NEW: Full support for 64-bit machines.
  • NEW: Double byte character support.
  • NEW: Support of non-TrueType fonts.
  • NEW: Enhanced support for Microsoft Windows 98, ME, XP and Vista as well as improved PDF viewing support on non-Windows platforms.

However, there is one drawback of PrimoPDF: there are ActivePDF advertising banner on the PrimoPDF user interface. It is not open source anyway, but it is owned by activePDF, Inc. On my personal view, it is OK to have advertising banner, since it does not disturb me when converting documents to PDF.

In conclusion, PrimoPDF is the best free PDF Converter at the moment. It has no limitations, supports all printable file type, offers security setting, provides compatibility, and it is completely free. But it has a drawback: it has banner advertising by activePDF and moreover it is not open source; activePDF has the power over primoPDF.

If you want to convert any printable file types to PDF, I recommend you to use PrimoPDF at the moment.
